New Decemberists EP Announced!

Galley favorites The Decemberists have just announced that they will be releasing a new EP on November 1st! The EP, titled Long Live The King will contain five acoustic tracks recorded at the same time as their last album, The King Is Dead, and a cover of the Grateful Dead song, "Row Jimmy". Get pumped!

Vids Worth A View - Dan Mangan

Today we stumbled across a beautiful video of Dan Mangan and crew playing two acoustic songs in a river! The background of the wilderness perfectly matches Mangan's voice and style. He plays "Rows of Houses" and "Leaves, Trees, Forest" of his new fantastic album, Oh Fortune. Enjoy!

City and Colour "Weightless" Music Video

Canadian group City and Colour have released a brand new video for their song "Weightless" off their newest album, Little Hell. It is very simple and straightforward, but also very beautiful. "It was all about using light in different ways," says frontman Dallas Green.

Sims - Wildlife

Sims, also known as part of rap collective Doomtree, may be the next thing to come out of Minnesota hip-hop. His brand new Wildlife EP stands out with its old school beats and refreshingly genuine and powerful lyrics. Available for free on his bandcamp, the EP includes five tracks that really capture his signature style. If you are a fan of innovative, indie rap, or his better known Doomtree partner P.O.S, you will definitely take a liking to Sims. Enjoy!!

James Vincent McMorrow - Wicked Game / Whip My Hair

Tender-voiced Irishman James Vincent McMorrow has quite a way with covers. With the amazing, pure sound of his acoustic guitar and powerful falsetto voice, he does a great job of putting his unique spin on a song. He recently performed a brilliant version of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" live. Take a listen to the live recording below. On another note, a few months back he humorously covered Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair" and even made that soothing and relaxing. Check it out!

The Tallest Man On Earth - Weather Of A Killing Kind

This summer the TV network Adult Swim gave away some random free singles online. One of those was a little gem from Kristian Mattson, better known as The Tallest Man On Earth. Enjoy this little treat from the folk gods!

Beirut-NPR Tiny Desk Concert

I could not be more excited to share this with you all. I've long been a fan of these sessions at NPR's offices, and even longer a fan of the truly brilliant Zach Condon and his group Beirut. This intimate view of a usually huge, orchestral band is quite refreshing. The first two songs are off their latest album The Rip Tide, the title track and "Santa Fe," respectively. The third is a traditional Serbian tune that goes a long way in explaining the influences for Condon's decidedly unique sound. Listen to this, and then go back and listen to their entire catalogue. I promise you won't regret it.

P.S. Here's my absolute favorite ever.

Vids Worth A View

One of our favorites, LA quintet Milo Greene has caught my eye with a beautiful video of them playing live in someone's living room. This video definitely speaks to how exquisite the band is live. Catch them on tour this fall with The Civil Wars! Check it out! You can hear the studio recording of "Autumn Tree" below.

SomethingALaMode

I'm not sure why I have gone so long before posting this, but it's about time that someone tells you about SomethingALaMode (or SALM). Two extremely talented string musicians from France, a cellist and a violist, teamed up a few years ago to do something extraordinary. They combined their beautiful, lush strings with European electro music! Their debut album has a very distinct sound and is full of gems whether you're a classical music buff or a fan of the clubs. Check it out!

Alex Drumm - Empty Rooms EP

Yet another Canadian singer/songwriter, Alex Drumm, breaks the mold a bit. With his debut Empty Rooms EP, available on his bandcamp, Drumm goes for a rough around the edges sound and hits it out of the park. With a sound comparable to Okkervil River and a beautifully unperfect voice, Drumm makes this EP a must-listen. Check it out!

El Guincho-"Bombay"

Enter Spanish musician Pablo Diaz-Reixa, or as the world knows him, El Guincho. I came upon this song while perusing my library yesterday, having long forgotten the charm and immense groove Bombay carries. Add to that the oddest, most entertaining music video I've ever seen, and we've got quite a combination on our hands. Watch and listen, I'm sure you'll feel the same way.

Ryan Adams-"Ashes & Fire"

Just released. One of my favorite artists, Ryan Adams, performing the title track off his upcoming offering due out next month. Not sure if he'll have a band behind him for the record, but after watching this video I almost don't care if he does. And if the rest of the album is anything like this cut, it's shaping up to be one of Adams' best efforts. October can't come soon enough.

Femi Kuti

The son of absolute legend Fela, Femi Kuti does his father proud with his latest album, Africa for Africa. Socially conscious, thought provoking, and at the end of the day just great to jam out to, the 14 tracks are well worth a few spins. Though the album came out earlier this year, Kuti caught my ear again with his wonderful Daytrotter Session released just last week. Give him a listen, get up and dance, I guarantee you won't regret it.
